history

Founded in 1983 by President / CEO Harold Jabarian, China Pearl has built a reputation as a provider of high-quality pearls, with immense inventory (you name it, they have it). China Pearl customers include department stores, chain stores, and independent retailers. Major clients include Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Kohl’s, JCPenney, Fred Meyer, Zales, Belk, Home Shopping Network, Helzberg, Ross, TJMaxx, Ross Simons, Walmart and Amazon.

China Pearl also produces pearl jewelry under several brand labels; providing clients with private label goods and other related services such as customized boxes and packaging.

As the company name might suggest, China Pearl’s business is rooted in Chinese Freshwater Pearls. But that 35-year old moniker does not tell the full story of the company’s pan-Pacific product line. Today, China Pearls forte extends to Chinese and Japanese Akoya Cultured Pearls, White and Golden South Sea Pearls from Australia and South East Asia, and Tahitian Black Pearls from French Polynesia.

Throughout the last decade, the retail industry has transformed in a variety of ways, placing new demands on vendors: supplying inventory both on consignment and in large quantities to fulfill weekly replenishment orders. As more and more consumers embrace shopping online, China Pearl has transformed its business model and made strategic investments in its Ecommerce department. This has enabled the company to be the largest pearl provider, drop shipping to the above mentioned retail clients and their online business.

In 1980, CEO Harold Jabarian was sent to Hong Kong with instructions to open and manage a processing factory. The manufactured pearl were then exported back to the Japanese head office.

Three years later, in 1983, Jabarian launched China Pearl. Jabarian built his own manufacturing factory in Hong Kong at first, shipped and sold only to exporters. Soon, the new company realized it made financial and competitive sense to export directly to all over the world. China Pearl became one of the largest manufacturer and exporter in Hong Kong Pearl Industry.

Meanwhile, the company achieved impressive milestones. In 1985, China Pearl first exhibited at the Hong Kong Jewelry Convention, where they gained customers in New York, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and elsewhere. In 1995, the company shifted its headquarters from Hong Kong to Los Angeles, CA.

Due to its competitive pricing and quality, by 1997, China Pearl was already opening doors with all major retailers in the United States. Jabarian’s longstanding relationships with the leading pearl farmers, enabled China Pearl to gather the entire crop from each pearl harvest, year after year. This unique supply chain allows China Pearl to offer its clients the largest variety of pearl qualities, colors, shapes, and sizes in the industry, all at an unmatched price.
